G.A.T.A. IV takes 3rd place in the 19th Annual Battle of the Alamo Tournament, March 28-30, 2008

G.A.T.A. IV starts it's 2008 tournament season by playing in the highly competitive Battle of the Alamo Tournament featuring 29 teams from Dallas, Austin, Laredo and San Antonio. Finishing in 3rd place fell short of the team’s goal of winning the tournament and showed that G.A.T.A. IV had developed some “rust” due to the extended 7 month period of not playing in tournaments since August of 2007. G.A.T.A. IV gave up 10 point leads in the closing minutes of each losing match and falling short by only 4 points in each loss.

G.A.T.A. IV began tournament play by defeating a quick San Antonio Rebels team. In the second game G.A.T.A. IV matched up with a talented San Antonio Mustangs team. This Mustang team just could not find its range, which normally features great perimeter players that can shoot the 3 ball very well. G.A.T.A. IV posted it's second win sending the Mustangs to the losers bracket. G.A.T.A. IV's third game featured an unknown team from Dallas - The Raptors. This team had height and athleticism combined with a very explosive offense. G.A.T.A. IV was able to hold them to only 27 points and double digit turn-overs while posting 41 points coming mainly from the perimeter.

G.A.T.A. IV posted a 3-0 record on the first day heading into a Sunday match-up with a very talented and well coached Austin team - The Rising Stars. G.A.T.A. IV posted a very hard fought win by only scoring 19 points and holding the Stars to 16 points. The game came down to the team that had the ball last would dictate the outcome. G.A.T.A. IV hit 3 out of 4 free-throws in the closing seconds to take the game.

G.A.T.A. IV heads into the semifinals facing a sharp-shooting San Antonio Spartans team. G.A.T.A. IV jumped to an early lead and extended it to 11 points with 5 minutes left in the game. The Spartans then launched a combination of three pointers and lane slashes to close the gap. With a 2 point lead, the Spartans played stall-ball and hit all it's free-throws to edge out G.A.T.A. IV by four points.

G.A.T.A. IV enters the losers bracket with a bruised ego having suffered it's first loss of the tourney and one starter out due to an injury. G.A.T.A. IV takes a double digit lead on the Rising Star and holds a lead thru most of the game. The Stars proved to be too much for G.A.T.A. IV down the stretch with the Star's point guards leading the assault. The Rising Stars took a 2 point lead and held the ball choosing to win the game on free-throws.

G.A.T.A. IV posted a 4-2 record placing 3rd in a field of 29 teams. Not bad for not having played together in seven months and with four new additions to the 2008 roster!! G.A.T.A. IV is looking forward to the 2008 season.
