GATA IV participates in the "Young Star' Gulf Coast Blue Chips Tournament , June 7-8, 2008


G.A.T.A. IV posts a perfect 3-0 record in group play and earns a 1st round bye loses in the semifinals to a combined 7th/ 8th grade team from Forth Worth in Overtime.

G.A.T.A. IV posted it first win against a very athletic and quick team - The Baytown Elite. Down the stretch G.A.T.A. IV’s perimeter game proved to be too much for the Baytowner who fell begin by a large margin and never recovered losing 58-40.

The second match-up had G.A.T.A. IV pitted against the tournament host - The Gulf Coast Blue Chips. I well coached and heady team the Chips just could not find the range and fell behind early and could not make up the difference losing 62-41. The third game was a run away with G.A.T.A. IV beating Team Coast-to-Coast 54-30.

Having earned a first round bye G.A.T.A. IV heads to the semifinals to play Team Forth Worth. This team was made up of 7th and 8th graders with great ball handling skills and a “never give-up” attitude. G.A.T.A. IV played a very efficient match throughout 2/3’s of the game and stretch their lead to as much as 17 point with less then 8 minutes to go in the game. Team Forth Worth’s relentless pressure gave them an opportunity to play for a tie with a 3-point shot with less then 10 seconds left. Team Forth Worth handed G.A.T.A. IV a 3-point blow to tie and take the game into overtime. Having lost all it’s momentum G.A.T.A. IV struggled in overtime with foul trouble and lets the game slip away giving Team Forth Worth a great come from behind win (61-64). G.A.T.A. IV claims the 3rd spot with a record of 3-1.
