Bitter Sweet for the Runners this Weekend - April 20-22

The San Antonio Roadrunners Orange & White Varsity teams took to the court this past weekend in Pearland, Texas at the first "live/open period" event of 2012. The "Orange" team once again, showed flashes of dominance, as they continue to build team chemistry. There were several good individual performances turned in by different players. Isaac Neaves was "Chairman of the Boards" leading the team in rebounds per game. Robby Benavides was the "Dish Man" handing out team high average assists per game. Drake Bigley led in the way in scoring, averaging team high points per game. Thaddeus Greene and Isaac Thornton also provided some scoring sparks, including a "THUNDEROUS DUNK" by Thornton.

The White team seems to have the edge in the team chemistry department. They showed that playing team ball will not only get everyone included in the box statistics, but will also get the "W" as well. They won their pool, finishing 2-0 and advancing to the Gold Bracket. There were good performances by several players. AJ Wise was outstanding on both ends of the floor. He showed complete versatility in his game and was a "Do All" player. Jared Thompson and Greg Fesperman showed their ability to put the ball in the hoop, while Nick Benavides was as tough and steady at the point, as a seasoned veteran. Defensively, Chris Molina's energy and hustle helped him lead the way in the steals department, while Trey Justice turned in the defensive play of the weekend, by going up high above the rim to block what was sure to be an impressive dunk by the L & S Airwalkers post player. Edward Adams and Matthew Warden also contributed clutch baskets at critical points throughout the weekend, giving the team the depth to compete and win on the Varsity level. Next up for both teams is the Duncanville GASO "live/open period" event at the Bob Knight Fieldhouse.
